Alloway Tunnel Shortlisted for a Thistle Award
We are delighted to have secured a place on the shortlist for this year's Scottish Thistle Awards regional finals for the category of “Best Community Tourism & Events Initiative.”
Organised by Visit Scotland, the Scottish Thistle Awards have recognised excellence across Scotland's tourism and events industry for over 30 years. Celebrating achievements by businesses, individuals and partnerships, the awards highlight the innovation, collaboration and commitment that help Scotland stand out as a visitor destination.
The awards ceremony is on Thursday 24 September at the Raddison Blu Hotel in Glasgow where the spotlight will shine on the people, businesses and organisations helping to shape Scotland's visitor economy. On the night, all will be recognised for creating memorable experiences and making a positive contribution to Scotland's tourism and events sector. Those who win their category will progress to the Scottish Thistle Awards national final in November.

It’s an opportunity to celebrate our success and to reflect on just how much we have achieved. Creativity and community have been at the heart of our project, and I’d like to thank Lead Artist, Chris Rutterford, trustees and volunteers for all their remarkable achievements.”
Chris Rutterford, Lead Artist and Project Manager said, “As we are within touching distance of completing this project, this fantastic news could not have come at a better time. In a few weeks, we will have completed 2000m2 of amazing artwork that has completely transformed an old disused railway tunnel into a place that brings beauty and joy to everyone that walks, cycles or visits Alloway.
“The community got behind the project from the outset with around 3000 people getting involved in our workshops to create one of the largest murals in Scotland. It’s been a really special project and together we have delivered something the community can be proud of. It’s great to have our collaboration with the community recognised in these Thistle Awards as I believe that together we have achieved a standout visitor attraction for Ayrshire.”
